His latest project Never Let Me Go (2011) - which features Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, and Andrew Garfield - without a doubt solidifies him as an underrated director with an amazing filmography. It's one of the most endearing premises from the careers of everyone involved, and the product holds up just wonderfully today. Williams plays a photo lab technician named Sy, who develops a fondness for a family for whom he simultaneously develops photos. Romanek then skipped a decade of filmmaking before releasing what is without a doubt his magnum opus: One Hour Photo (2002).Īn underrated psychological thriller with Robin Williams in the lead role, that entry among Romanek's filmography grants him a spot on this list almost by itself. Static (1985) was his directorial debut, and it remains his most unknown feature to this day. He's willing to do whatever it takes to get the footage he needs, resulting in an intense plot with engaging dialogue in each conversation between characters. As a stringer named Lou Bloom, his efforts induce anxiety in the viewer who anticipate Lou's next maniacal action. If you aren't a fan of Nightcrawler, it could be that the performance from Jake Gyllenhaal sent a few too many chills down your spine. But the directorial debut of Gilroy is one of the best and most thrilling pictures you're likely to read about today: Nightcrawler (2014). You may not resonate with their rather absurd styles, in other words, in spite of taking full note of their qualitative elements. (2017) and Velvet Buzzsaw (2019) are well-made titles from start to finish that without a doubt appeal to a specific corner of film fans.
